PRIVATE VS. PUBLIC UNITS
Understanding the difference and when to use each.
Choose the right visibility for your unit.
Public Units
- Visible in the unit directory.
- Anyone can search and request to join.
- Good for broad communities (e.g., "Marine Veterans of Texas").
Private Units
- Hidden from search.
- Members join only via invite link.
- Good for close-knit groups (e.g., your old platoon).
Changing Privacy
You can switch between public and private at any time in unit settings. Existing members are not affected.
Recommendations
- VSOs and organizations: Start public to grow membership.
- Personal groups: Start private to keep it tight.
